Big Ideas

Joanna Ellis joined The Literary Platform’s consultancy arm in March 2012 and works with its clients on business development and organisational change, content strategy and partnership building.

Previously she was Marketing Director at Faber where she held a key role in making it one of the world’s most vibrant and forward-thinking publishing companies. As well as working on the launch of Faber’s PoD imprint, Faber Finds, the Faber Academy, Faber Factory and Faber Digital’s award-winning apps, she collaborated with colleagues from the Independent Alliance to develop forward-thinking initiatives such as ‘Love Your Indie’, a reward scheme for independent book stores.

During her time at Faber she oversaw integrated campaigns for many high profile books and authors, as well as the promotion of the Arts lists and the Faber brand.

Joanna reconfigured the marketing function at Faber to meet the demands of the rapidly-changing retail and media landscape, focusing on audience development through direct to consumer activity and partnerships with like-minded organisations.

She has been a speaker on Brand (at St Brides and Wolff Olins), Content Strategy (for the Publishers’ Association), Digital Opportunities for Writers (for New Writing South), Communications and organisational change (London Book Fair, 2012) and the shifting landscape of publishing (at CONTEC in Brazil, LCC, Goldsmiths and Natur Och Kultur in Sweden).

Joanna started her career at Fourth Estate as marketing assistant in 1998 and subsequently worked at Simon and Schuster.
